I grew up wanting to be an artist.  However, my love for art took
a different direction in adulthood.   I became a nurse earning a
Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas in
Austin.  I worked as a critical care nurse and flight nurse for
many years while starting a family.

I rediscovered painting when I took a community education
watercolor workshop. On the first day of class, I knew that I
would be a painter.  When painting I felt peace and had clarity
like no other time.  My education in art is mostly self-directed.  I
am thankful to the brilliant artists, friends, and mentors who
graciously share their knowledge and skill, and who take time
educating and encouraging fellow artists and the community.

Originally from Saum, Minnesota, a small town northeast of
Fargo, North Dakota, I have had the good fortune to live in
many scenic places including Texas, Washington State, and
Southern California.  Currently, I live in Stafford, Virginia and
paint almost daily in my home studio or at
LibertyTown Arts.

As a nurse, I have shared and witnessed moments of the human
experience common to us all, both noble and tragic.  These
encounters continue to influence me as an artist and how I view
and appreciate art.  Art is a valuable healing experience for
both the creator and the observer.

Art for me is an opportunity to see beauty in the ordinary and
communicate that vision to the viewer.  I see the everyday
moments in life as extraordinary and therefore, have the
potential to be great works of art. I am inspired by these
moments; ones that make me pause, take a deep breath, or just
take a closer look. I am drawn to paint close intimate views of
commonplace things that might otherwise be easily overlooked.
I use texture, value relationships, and color perspective to create
volume and drama in my watercolor and pastel paintings.

My goal in art is to find a simple way to express what I have
discovered so the viewer can connect with the work.
